For many months, you have been promised more opportunities to participate in Guild events.

The following event is the first of what the Guild intends to be a series of opportunities for you to increase your knowledge of Washington, DC, your tour guiding skills, and earn CEUs (i.e., participation points).   

It is expected that all of you have at least a basic knowledge of Washington, DC tourist attractions, history, culture, and how to get people around the city. Our goal is to enhance your area knowledge and tour guiding skills so you deliver wonderful tour experiences to your clients and are prepared to advance to Guild Certified Guide. In this event, you will learn more about the Washington, DC neighborhood of Georgetown.

Your Assignment:  Choose a topic from the list below and write a paper (one to one-and-a-half pages, single line spacing) about an historical/cultural aspect of Georgetown--facts, stories, and interesting tidbits.  Write about things that would be of interest to tourists. Credit your sources.

Send papers to Heidi Watson - Training Committee Co-chair at gvthnks@mac.com by Monday, October 9, 2017.  Participants will receive two CEUs, or participation points, for papers completed in accordance with the assignment description and assessment criteria.  Papers will be made available to all participants.  Selected papers may be published in The Capital Guide Online.

Assessment Criteria:  Participants submitting papers after 5 pm EST, Monday, October 9, 2017, will receive no CEUs.High quality, professional, and accurate work is expected.  Paper needs to include at least one story or one tidbit. (Tidbit is defined as a small and particularly interesting item of gossip or information.)  Credit your sources of information---Wikipedia is not an appropriate source of information for this paper.
