On December 16th, Guild Guides will be volunteering for the 3rd year at the annual “Wreaths Across America” event at Arlington National Cemetery. This is an annual event during which over 200,000 donated Christmas wreaths are placed at headstones. As many as 75,000 relatives, families, local residents and visitors arrive at the cemetery for the privilege and honor of placing a wreath on a veteran’s gravesite. There are over 200 tractor trailers parked throughout the cemetery that morning. Thousands of first-time visitors arrive at ANC to participate in this event. Guild Guides have been helping by answering questions and providing helpful directions at the gates and inside the cemetery. While at the cemetery, many visitors would like to visit the JFK Gravesite, the Tomb of the Unknowns and other sites. As Guild Guides, we know ANC like the back of our hand! The “Wreaths Across America” organization is extremely thankful for the assistance we are able to provide that morning. They are very excited to have us back participating in this event for the third year in a row! The morning starts around 7 AM and you are free to leave around 11 AM. It is such a thrilling experience. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself staying longer. Many of the visitors thank us for being at ANC! It is a moving and gratifying way for us to say “Thank You For Your Service” to our veterans. No matter how cold the morning air is that day, you will leave with a warm feeling in your heart. If you have questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Clara Sachs at clara.sachs32@gmail.com or 301.717.1168. Your family members are welcome to volunteer with you! All you need is your smile and your enthusiasm. All Guides will receive a participation point for volunteering.
