Twenty-nine prisoners from DC headed down river in 1910 to a new, progressive-era prison that would train prisoners in a trade to enable them to obtain employment after their release. In 1917, members of the National Women's Party protesting at the White House were incarcerated and subjected to horrendous treatment leading to the right to vote. Now The Workhouse Arts Center offers opportunities and experiences in visual arts, performing arts, history and education. From the past to the present, see what the Workhouse has to offer!
