Northern Va. Community College-Alexandria campus - (703)431-1482 - Four week Adult Ed. class involved in becoming a regional tour guide. Introductory class on campus, 3 remaining classes will be held on-site at area attractions
Northern Va. Community College-Annandale campus - (703) 323-3457 - Eight week-long, 3 credit course, 5 hour sessions, 5 classes meet off campus. Offered as part of Travel & Tourism department.

Tour Guide Training Programs based in Washington,DC

"How to Become a Washington DC Tour Guide - Track I"
This hands-on course prepares participants to sit for the Washington, DC license test, demonstrates world renown best practices on guiding skills and techniques while conducting a walking tour. This intensive course runs 5 weeks, twice a week (35hours). A study group to prepare for the DC license test is offered after class hours.

"How to Become a Washington DC Tour Guide - Track II"
This hands-on course emphasizes basic guiding skills with the added feature of understanding the multilingual/multicultural dimensions of the city. It demonstrates best practices using group management techniques on-foot as well as guiding with the use of a moving vehicle. This course runs 5 weeks (35 hours). A study group to prepare for the DC License test is offered after class hours.

Description of Course:

Our training program begins in early January and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays for approximately 8 weeks (around 95 hours). You will learn about and visit over 50 sites either by metro, walking, or by bus. It is primarily intended for, but not limited to those who have no prior experience as a tour guide. Our trainers have extensive experience in the industry and have worked with groups of many sizes and diverse cultures and backgrounds. Our classes discuss presentation techniques, tour management, tour routing, and DC licensing requirements.

Our company has been in existence for 40 years and is the oldest and largest tour company in the Washington, DC area. We are widely recognized by those in tourism as providing the most comprehensive training in the industry. We are the only company that provides both training and guaranteed assignments.
