The Saint John Paul II National Shrine is excited to host a fam tour for the Guild of Professional Tour Guides of Washington DC. This religious venue is a perfect place to worship in the Catholic faith, discover the impact of arguably the greatest pope of modern times, and learn how art is used to highlight his teachings. A stunning church and an accompanying chapel feature floor-to-ceiling mosaics designed by a world-renowned artist that blend traditional images of Western Christianity with the iconic style of Eastern Christianity. A top-notch permanent exhibit also demonstrates how Pope Saint John Paul II’s early life and struggles shaped a papacy that played a significant role in the fall of  Communism. We invite you to join us and learn how this saint showed others how to live a courageous life through his teachings, survived assassination attempt, ecumenical dialogue with all faiths, and continued service amid a struggle with Parkinson’s. The tour will be led by Ken Balbuena, the Director of Pilgrimage and Visitor Services and a Guild Guide since 2009, and his team. It is a perfect complement or alternative to tour groups – Catholic and non-Catholic – wishing to visit the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception located less than half a mile down the road. The tour will also highlight a special connection the Shrine has to something all tour groups see at the US Capitol.
