Meeting Agenda

Meeting Topics

  1. Learn about The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, a non-profit corporation affiliated with American University that offers additional educational opportunities for individuals who want to remain intellectually active and involved. This Guild presentation was scheduled for July so that guides interested in taking courses during the off-season will have the information they need to register prior to Fall registration deadlines. Some of the courses are relevant to tour guiding.
  2. Steve Livengood of the Capitol Historical Society will give a brief intro to their new book, "Creating Capitol Hill" and will have copies for sale at the meeting (payable by check or credit card).
  • By car: Be a good neighbor and park in the AU Spring Valley Building garage for $2/hr or park at the meters on Massachusetts Avenue rather than parking in neighborhood zone spaces. If parking at meters, make sure you are on the side of the road that doesn't have afternoon rush hour parking restrictions. If parking in the garage, know your plate # for the payment kiosk. Take the elevator up 1 floor from the garage to find the meeting room..
  • By Metro/Shuttle: The "Express Route" AU shuttle operates between the Tenleytown metro station (shuttle stop at Albemarle St and Fort Dr NW) and the Spring Valley Building every 30 minutes (at 15 & 45 minutes after the hour) and every 15 minutes when the meeting ends. Allow enough time for the ride from the station prior to the meeting. If arriving by shuttle, enter the building through the back door near the shuttle stop, walk straight past the glass walls to the red walls surrounding the elevators and go down 1 level to the meeting room.
  • By Metrobus: The N4 bus from Dupont Circle and the N6 bus from Friendship Heights both stop at the Spring Valley Building. Meeting room is straight ahead from the building doors on Mass. Ave.
Refreshments will not be served but food & drink are allowed in the meeting room. Wagshal's Market in the Spring Valley Shopping Center next door to the AU building has a nice selection of food & drink and there is a Starbucks in the strip mall across the street.

Anyone wanting to arrive early for sit-down lunch in the neighborhood prior to the meeting will find Wagshal's Deli next door and Le Pain Quotidien or Millie's Spring Valley across the street.
