The Guild's group liability insurance policy is scheduled for renewal for the annual period beginning November 1, 2018. Registration for participation in the group policy can be now made via the Guild's Calendar of Events on the website. The individual participation premium is $78.

Please note that the terms of this liability insurance policy remain essentially unchanged from previous years. It is a policy applicable to tour guides operating in the Washington, D.C. area. It does not provide coverage for escorts who remain with their groups overnight and/or provide guiding services outside the immediate DC area. As we’ve tried to convey in the past, this type of professional liability insurance is very difficult to obtain at a reasonable cost. The key benefit of the coverage is that it provides legal representation in the event any participant is sued specific to the terms of the policy. The decision as to whether to spend the $78 for annual coverage is for each member to make. If you decide that you might want to participate in the policy after its effective date, you likely will still have to pay the $78 annual premium at least through April, i.e., the first six months of the policy; however, it only provides coverage from the date of your participation -- not retroactive to the start date of the policy.

If you generally perform work on behalf of specific tour operators, you might ask their representatives whether they provide liability insurance coverage while you are in their employment.
