Your Guild Training Committee has put together a special training trip to Maryland’s Eastern Shore.  Our focus on the first day will be the life of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad.  Some of you have been to the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park, but have not had time or the service of a guide to visit the other sites associated with Harriet’s life.  Anthony Cohen, author, historian and founder of The Menare Foundation (dedicated to the preservation of the Underground Railroad) leads us on this journey.  Both Sandra and Christen have heard him on several occasions and am glad the timing could work out for this tour with the Guild.  He will also join us for our dinner in Easton.

On the second day we visit the towns of St Michaels and Oxford.  Each are rich in beauty and history.  Frederick Douglass is important to St Michaels and you will learn of that history in a walking tour of the town through their local museum.  In addition, we will learn of the Battle of St Michaels, August 10, 1813, and why lite lanterns are prized in the town.  We will enjoy some self-guided time at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum because there is something for everyone to enjoy at this award winning museum.  Then we will head to Oxford for a lunch at the Robert Morris Inn.  The inn has some history but the food is farm-to-table good.  There is one step-on guide in Oxford and he will be our guide as we tour this once international shipping port.  We aim to be back before you are hungry!
