The views of the city from the park during winter, unimpeded by foliage, are extraordinary. The 12-acre neoclassical park is reminiscent of an Italian villa garden. Prior to becoming a national park, the area was part of an estate called Meridian Hill, the home of Columbian College, a Civil War encampment, and the site of nature poet Joaquin Miller’s cabin.

Join Fiona Clem, Guild member and author of Meridian Hill Park, to learn more about the history of this site. Fiona is active in DC's book discussion scene, having appeared at the Historical Society of Washington, DC; George Washington University, the Georgetown Branch of the DC Public Library, and Busboys and Poets. She is the author of DC Memorialist, a blog about DC statues: http://dcmemorialist.com/category/statues/

Stay in walking shape this winter! After the tour we'll decamp to a nearby sandwich shop to warm up and socialize.

Meet at: the Joan of Arc statue - in the middle of the upper park area.

Cost: $10.00

One Continuing Education Credit (CEU) will be awarded to attendees who register in advance.
