Under the Rainbow:  A Gay History Walking Tour of Washington, D.C. – People, Places & Events

Join Guild Guide Ella Schiralli as we discover the history of the gay community from war hero to modern day human rights activists. Engage and explore how Washington, DC has been a pivotal location for the struggle for human rights. Discover the many people who have contributed to the movement, and learn how local places and events shaped an accepting environment leading to the 2015 Marriage Equality landmark Supreme Court decision.

Tour Start Time:  6:00pm – 8:00 pm, rain or shine.

Tour Meeting Location:  Outside the Decatur House, H Street and Jackson Place, NW.

Metro Stations Nearby:  Tour begins near Farragut North (Red Line) and Farragut West (Blue, Orange, Silver).Tour ends at Dupont Circle Metro (Red Line).

Activity Level and Tour Route:  Leisurely walk that begins at the Northwest corner of Lafayette Park, with stops in the Park. Then we head north on 17th Street, N.W. where we will leave downtown and walk several blocks in the ‘gay friendly’ neighborhood. The tour will end at the Dupont Circle fountain and Metro stop. ‘Under the Rainbow’ is an enjoyable and educational tour designed for all people of all ages. 

Cost $10.
Members who register in advance will receive 1 CEU (Continuing Education Unit) for attending.

Optional: Join your Guild colleagues for a pre-tour social / happy hour at 5:00pm at Blackfinn Ameripub, located at 1620 I St., NW. It is 1.5 blocks from the tour meeting location.

Restaurants for post-tour drinks/dinner in and around Dupont Circle will be discussed during the tour.
