Serendipity is finding interesting or valuable things by chance. How does serendipity fit into tourism? As guides we are always looking for happenings in real time as we walk the city sidewalks or travel along our bus routes. Ordinary events and sights that routinely occur around the city enrich our guests’ experiences and provide opportunities for interesting commentary. Obvious examples are events like motorcades, full honors funeral processions at ANC, political marches and demonstrations, the display of flags on Pennsylvania Avenue that signals the visit of a foreign head-of-state, etc.

This online gathering will allow guides to share cool things that we have observed, as well as serendipitous opportunities that we purposely incorporate into our tours that make each outing unique. Think you have nothing to share? Just sign up and listen!

We will use the GoToMeeting application that the Guild Board uses for virtual meetings. It is user-friendly and a great way to interact online and by phone.

To participate, please register in advance on the Guild website as you would for an in-person event. On the day of the session you will receive an email containing a link and instructions for either going online or calling in by phone on the scheduled day and time. This is a free event.

Guides who register in advance and attend the session will receive 1 Continuing Education Unit (CEU).
